The New York Knicks have started a brand new era.
The Run and Gun Knicks are pilling up points at an exhorbited rate, doing thier best to immitate the seven seconds or less offense the Suns used to get in the playoffs every year. They have almost all the pieces, a rebounding front court player in David Lee, an unselfish point guard in Chris Duhon, a spark plug and highlight waiting to happen in Nate Robinson and other decent to good scorers in Harrington and Thomas.
They even have the nameless international player in Gallinari that could someday be something more than Frédéric Weis.
But they are missing something, something that could put them over the top and have them in the playoffs.
A rugged, skillfull, back court player that can break down any...and I mean ANY defender in the league.
Like...you know...Stephon Marbury...
I know I know...He's a jerk, a self righteous malcontent that would just as soon cheat on his wife in the back of a car as he would tattoo his own logo on the side of his head. Things the majority of people in this country find a little bit questionable.
He's had a problem with darn near every coach he's had. Not to mention that high top of offensive proportions that he sported early on.
But I honestly dont care what he does on his own personal time, I'm a basketball fan not the Church Lady.
Stephon Marbury is one of those rare talents in the NBA that can slash as well as shoot, run up and down the floor and play in a half court offense.
Hell, the poor bum lost weight before this season because he was ITCHING to play in this style of offense. He wanted a chance to prove he was the best point guard in the game, and he probably could have.
If Captain D'Antoni didn't go all "SCREW YOU BULLET HEAD"
No one really knows where it all went wrong, it seems D'Antoni held a grudge way back in his days as interim coach in Phoneix, he's the one the pulled the gun on the trade to NY. When the new head coach got to NY, he seemed to treat Marbury like an indestructible cockroach.
Just step on him step on him step on him...sooner or later he'll either die or just go away.
But that's a bad move dude...
For all the Knicks talent and the fact that they finally have an identity, it's an incomplete one.
What good is all that running if you play a good defensive team like the Celtics or the Spurs.
In fact the Knicks went a stretch where they played the top 6 teams in the league in a week span, LAL, CLE, BOS, and then throw the Trail Blazers just cause sucker punch would just be funny. They played all of those team tough, it took Kobe 61 points to pull out a win, Lebron an almost triple double, if we had someone who could at least warrant some defensive energy from those stellar players we might have had a better chance. If we had someone that could get past good interior defense we might have fared better against the KG and his goons and Mr. "I don't really have a facial expression" and his teammates in Portland.
You NEED to have someone take the ball in the half court and force the issue, someone not 5ft 8in tall that can't get a three off unless the defender is nowhere in him.
Duhon is nice, but he couldn't get off the bench in Chicago behind Kirk Heinrich, Ben Gordon and the newbie Derrick Rose. Lee will get you hustle points, but get enough big bodies out there and he's a non-factor, Harrington is a good 2 and Thomas a good 3...
Who's the good 1?
